MIC MAC MALL SORTS IT OUT

At Mic Mac Mall, we care about the community we live in that’s why we are dedicated to making sure we do our part for the environment.

Our Sort it Out program is an initiative that ensures food court waste is properly separated and disposed of. Customers are encouraged to bring their trays to the Food Court sorting station, where service staff collect and separate the waste according to City of Halifax Waste Management guidelines. This program significantly increased the amount of organics and recycles diverted from landfill sites and benefits the local and global environment.

Divert Nova Scotia Celebrates 21 Past Champions for the 2021 Mobius Awards

Held annually, the Mobius Awards bring together Nova Scotia’s environmental elite from businesses, schools, and communities across the province. A variety of categories focus on aspects of waste diversion activities and results. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations will be highlighted a little differently.  Instead of new winners being awarded in 2021, Divert Nova Scotia wanted to feature 21 past champions of this award, their accomplishments, where they are currently and how their environmental efforts have evolved and grown. The 21 environmental Champions were selected by the seven municipal Solid Waste Management Regions across the Province. Mic Mac Mall was one of these 21 champions within the Halifax region recognized for their environmental successes with our Sort it Out program implemented in 2014.

With 94% waste diversion rate resulting from their “Sort It Out: program", Mic Mac Mall remains a leader in sustainable practices for large businesses in Nova Scotia. Since winning Large Business of the Year in 2015, they continue to strive towards sustainable practices and consistently evaluate and improve their environmental programs through staff training, updated signage, and the ongoing support of Halifax municipal waste educators.

Mic Mac Mall will remain committed to diverting waste from landfills while making our Province a more beautiful and sustainable place.  We will continue to work with our partners in realizing more sustainable options improving our environmental impact.
